Ear to the
Ground
Theology in the
Trenches

We
live close in these here parts. We hear the world’s pulse as it beats. Open
spaces provide clear headedness. No blockage of view makes one’s vision clear.
Inspiration
comes through perspiration because if we don’t do it, no one does, and so we do. Interdependency
creates community. Out of necessity, we lean on one another.
Close
attention to our own back yards brings forth fruit as the edges touch the world
at large. Oh…distance may seem cumbersome at times, but truth is we’re just
hours away from the next ship sailing or flight out. Buttons clicked allow us
to go wherever hearts are called…but most oft we stay, pray, and hold the world
in our hearts cause we have an ear to the ground.
Storms
approach; we offer hope as knees bend and heads bow. Winds do not only blow but
tides change among nations. We know these things…we can hear. We are steeped in
truth as wisdom presents itself in His word. Those who dare shout it down know
not. They cannot. We press on. Mighty in
throngs we need not be, for He alone is mighty. We can hear with an ear to the
ground and we listen.
We
listen for approaching hoof beats…we know the sound well…at least we think we
do. The dust is rising but it’s not from the anything seen before. The
recognizable tones within those approaching beats begin to sooth…for He says, “Fear
not.” And so with ear to the ground we listen... “Leaning not unto our own
understanding” Prov. 3:6).
With
ear to the ground, we hear, “Behold, He cometh with clouds; and every eye shall
see Him, and they also which pierced Him: and all kindred of the earth shall
wail because of Him. Even so, Amen” (Rev. 1:7).
With
ear to the ground, we hear, “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard
behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the
first and the last”(Rev. 1:10-11).
With
ear to the ground, we hear, “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit
saith…” (Rev. 2:11).
With
ear to the ground, we hear, “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit
saith…” (Rev. 2:17).
With
ear to the ground, we hear, “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit
saith…” (Rev. 2:29). Amen.
