Good News/Bad News/Good News

Theology in the Trenches

By Kathleen Kjolhaug

The good news: All of the kids were coming home for the weekend.

The bad news: The day of arrival, the dryer broke.

The good news: Husband and son found the problem.

The bad news: The dryer was definitely broken and not repairable.

The good news: Husband and other son were free to go buy a new one.

The bad news: The one they picked out was expensive.

The good news: It was on clearance and the salesman gave them the deal of the century.

The bad news: After bringing it home and trying to dry one load, the clothes were still wet.

The good news: Father and son team once again found the problem.

The bad news: It was a gas dryer; we needed the electric version.

The good news: The sales person took full responsibility, and we didn’t even have to get crabby about it.

The bad news: It is two days later. Kids are gone. Hubby is at work. There is wet laundry hanging everywhere.

The good news: At least the washer is working

The bad news: I have no access to the pick-up needed to return the gas dryer.

The good news: A personal meeting to “fix” this mess transpired, and an identical electric version sitting on the sales floor was found with the exact same deal of the century pricing.

The good news: The delivery of the new electric dryer will be for free.

The good news: They will pick up of the “old new one” for free.

The good news: They will pick up the old broken one…for free and haul it away.

The good news just keeps coming.

Proverbs 25:25 says “Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land.”

Luke 9:6, “So they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news…”

2 Sam. 18:31 “My Lord… hear the good news. The Lord has vindicated you today…”

Prov. 15:30 “Light in a messenger’s eye brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health...”

Matthew 9:35, “Jesus went throughout…teaching …proclaiming the good news…”

Luke 4:43, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God…” Amen.
