What Was It?
What Was It?
Theology in the Trenches
By Kathleen Kjolhaug
Was
it the times we laughed, shared, and called…just because…that I miss? Or did
you stop calling just because and therefore, you’re missed?
Was
it the time when all the groups were formed and there just wasn’t room for one
more… and it made for an odd man out…so it was easier to keep your spot than
make room for one more?
Was
it the time it felt almost like family and trying became a little too obvious
and so…power given over allowed for the taking of it…and as the gavel swung it
was determined that bloodlines were not only drawn, but set?
Was
it the time when community spirit was more territorially driven and last one in
was really never in at all and so “welcome” did not roll off tongue?
Was
it the time when the teams were set…long before all members were even born…and when
they finally were, the deck looked like it may pose a threat…so tearing down
became easier than building up?
Was
it the time when your desire to befriend was driven by the need to help others
you love… therefore using…rather than choosing to truly care…a current,
currently all too trendy?
Was
it the time when walking tall…made others feel small…as names branded and worn
shielded…shielded hearts from walking as one…as equals…for thou shalt not pass
or surpass the power purchased…for it is pricey and yours is not…therefore…I am
better than you?
Was
it the time when it was merely too good to be true and all you had to be was
true and you weren’t?
Was
it the time…years gone by now…when all of the above still teeter on the totter
and there is no middle ground to balance? That which was…still is?
Like
a drop leafed table, we become smaller once support which was meant to
give…gives way. For I have not only been done to but have done unto You.
“Forgive
us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us…and lead us not
into temptation but deliver us from evil...” (Matt. 6:12-13) Amen.
