Women Are Scary...

“Women Are Scary”

Theology in the Trenches

One thing led to another as I was poking around the internet recently.  I don’t exactly remember what I was searching for, but up popped an interesting link…linking me to a u-tube video by Melanie Dale. Her new book, “Women Are Scary,” was released this past week.  What drew me to her website was the free link to printable conversation starters which were designed to help moms connect.

I wondered why on earth anyone would need such a thing.  And, if anyone did need them, I was curious to see what this young author might say in order to authentically help others.  Well, the brilliance of the free download was one thing, but with it…wouldn’t you know…were the first two chapters of the book…which got me hooked.  I ordered it.

She brings dunkin donut dates to life after break ups in friendships.  She helps every woman see that they, too, are capable of reiterating words that could bring death blows.  Mean girls doesn’t begin to portray how we could destroy the potential beauty we have to offer one another.

Malanie Dale’s brilliance isn’t just in her free download of conversation starters, nor her first couple chapters of the book to get you hooked.  Nor is her brilliance limited to the funny u-tube video she has cleverly put together.  Rather, it’s anchored in her honest humor blanketing this topic we’re wrapped in during the course of her discourse.

Melanie Dale empowers us.  She empowers by helping us to see first and foremost what we can become when we begin to lean into one another.  She empowers by helping us see our potential as a body of women being supportive of one another.  She empowers us to become women who will work on one another’s behalf rather than against one another as competitors.  She empowers the friendship between moms calling them momlationships which helps fill needs on many levels.  And, last but not least, Melanie weaves in the Master Weaver’s Word.

“If we can learn how to develop real, soul-soothing relationships, there’s no stopping what we can do together for our kids, our families, and the world.  But first we have to stop being scary and scared of each other” (Melanie Dale).

Don’t just take my word for it.  Poke around at unexpected.org and see for yourself.

Matthew 18:19-20 reinforces the wisdom beneath her wings.  “Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven.  For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.”  Amen.
