Oh Come Let Us Adore Him

Oh Come Let Us Adore Him
Theology in the  Trenches

I’ve often thought this thought. If we truly believe that He is God, that He is I Am, that He is Lord of the Universe, Maker of Heaven and earth…if we truly have faith as big as a mustard seed, that is all it would take, should take, could take, for any of us…who truly worship the Lord our God Almighty…to be free to fall prostrate upon the ground in pure worship any time…anywhere simply because He is God.

Odd as that may seem, picture it for a moment. Perhaps it would be like getting a strike at the bowling alley. The front pin would go flying and the others would follow by scattering full force. So, too, as one falls prostrate, others would hit the ground all around. Some might tiptoe past while others fill with road rage and stampede across the backs of those before them.

Eventually, as we became more accustomed to seeing the likes of, it might not phase a one of us. After all, if Mary Poppins delights others by making an umbrella entrance…how much more would we be thrilled at the sight of those around us bent in holy worship.

I know what you are thinking. You are thinking that He tells us to go into a room and close the door so others don’t see (Matt. 6:6). But hold on here. I’m not talking about doing this for show and tell…I’m asking a question. Wouldn’t it be flat out fun to live in a world where we felt the freedom to simply stop and face plant down in order to commune during our commute upon this planet?  And, if one chose to stop and drop we could gather nearby protecting in prayer. Protection offered would be paramount to those seeking to attend to His still small voice.

This scenario actually unfolded right before my very eyes the other day. Oh, I wasn’t exactly upon the highways of life but, rather, within a little byway.

In a small chapel, I did sit which was merely candle lit. Quiet reflected round the shed-sized room enfolding those within. Spellbound in prayer each one was when suddenly, movement up front made my eyes astute as the tennis shoe gal hit the floor…prostrating herself before our precious Lord. A peace that passeth all understanding flooded the room as others within continued undaunted by what was before or beside them. Love lit as she hit, and that was that.

Me? I sized up the situation as well as the one on the floor. The neatly cuffed jeans and funky laced tennies gave way her age. College student for sure was the brave heart before me, and I for one was blessed at the sight that someone forty years my junior was upon their face in prayer.

Oh, Come Let Us Adore Him are the words that flooded. If we do not proclaim Christ the Lord, the very stones will cry out (Luke 19:40).  I see them crying out…all around…be on the lookout for as you drop you may find you are doing so not only upon stones but beside them.  Amen.
